SOFTWARE ENGINEERS- (2) -Embedded & Visual Studio- Lower Naugatuck Valley
Desiring the freedom to manage your own projects? Interested in traveling a bit, meeting
directly with customers? Looking to utilize your skills in Visual Studio, as well as
real-time embedded development? Two Senior Software development positions with unusually
diverse duties have just opened with a small manufacturer of customized fully automated
equipment. This booming division of an international corporation is having its best year
ever. To date, they have booked business running into 2012. Having been established for
over 45 years, this company is one of the leaders of the industry worldwide. Working for
a friendly, open, easygoing manager with a decent sense of humor and realistic expectations,
you will be managing your own system-oriented projects. In addition to the software piece,
you will also function as an Applications Engineer, working directly with customers,
traveling internationally 25% to 30% of the time. The development portion is about
half C++ and Visual Basic (moving to C#.NET) Visual Studio with SQL/Server, and the other
50% is on real-time embedded C and Pascal microprocessor control applications. They create
“Asynchronous control” systems using their own operating system which boots in DOS, has
60 “virtual circuits”, which executes on an Ethernet network. The communication protocols
here are CAN, TCP/IP, and RS485. Much of the embedded piece involves timing issues.
In addition to doing applications and software development, you will also devise tests,
handle documentation, conduct installation onsite, and even support the software after
installation. The hours are 8:30 to 5 PM, and they rarely work more than 45 hours a week.
The atmosphere is friendly and tight-knit, they have a nice, easily accessible facility in
a suburban location, and there is no weekend work. The target salary on these is $75,000 to
$85,000, and I will present people with requirements to $90,000. Benefits here include
medical, dental and 401 (k) plan.
These positions require six or more years of C++/Windows, and C/C++ (some Pascal preferred)
real-time embedded systems development experience, permanent U.S. residency, a technical
degree or equivalent, and decent communication skills to work with customers, and some
interest in international travel. Any background in project management is strongly preferred.
Competence in math and analytical problem solving skills are also keys to success here.
